You can find a food allergy friendly gingerbread house kit no matter how many food allergies your family is managing

Regardless of the holiday you celebrate, decorating gingerbread houses together is fun for the whole family. You may be thinking this isn’t a tradition your family can include because of your child’s food allergies. Not true! No matter which food allergies your family is managing, there’s a kit you can use to make decorating gingerbread houses a holiday family tradition.

As a food allergy mom for over nineteen years, there was a time I couldn’t find a gingerbread house kit that was safe for my daughter who is allergic to peanuts and eggs. But over the years things changed and we were able to find safe options. One year I even bought a cookie cutter kit and we baked the parts ourselves to build and decorate gingerbread houses.

This year there are more gingerbread house kits on the market than ever before! I know it’s so time consuming to research food allergy friendly products so I wanted to help make it easier for you. Below is information on some of the gingerbread house kits available. There are kits made in allergen free facilities and kits available at different price points. There’s even a great nonfood gingerbread house your child can decorate if you’re managing too many food allergies and don’t have time to bake. Run through the list and find a kit that works for your family.

Please note, many companies have ingredient information and manufacturing details on their websites. For the gingerbread house kits below, links are included so you can view detailed information and purchase (by the way, these are not affiliate links. Just suggestions from one food allergy mom to another :). I reached out to manufacturers but not all responded. Ultimately, you need to be the one to determine what is safe for your child.

Building and decorating gingerbread houses became a highlight of the holidays for my two daughters. Every year we gift each of my daughters a gingerbread house kit then sit together as a family while they create them. It’s a tradition my older daughters still haven’t outgrown (which makes my mommy heart happy).

If you want to include this holiday tradition with your family, here are some allergy friendly options…

Allergy Friendly Gingerbread House Kits for Everyone!

Gingerbread House Cookie Cutter Sets

There are so many gingerbread cookie cutter kit options on the market. It’s very cost effective because you can use it every year. You can easily find allergy friendly sugar cookie recipes online and make the dough ahead of time. The dough can be stored in the refrigerator for two to four days or you can freeze it for two months.

Below are pictures from a time my family used a cookie cutter kit. Though it was more work than a kit with pre-made parts, it was one of the best memories we have of making gingerbread houses together. I bought allergy friendly icing and candy safe for our family (peanut and egg free) for decorating. We made full size houses but you can also make mini ones! Following is a list of gingerbread cookie cutter kit options.

Nonfood Gingerbread House!

If you don’t have time to bake and your family is juggling many food allergies, then this nonfood kit is a wonderful option to enjoy decorating a gingerbread house! You can get it at Target HERE. It comes with everything you need and the current price is $9.00.

Remember, if your child has never made a gingerbread house, they don’t have any expectations. Sometimes as food allergy moms we hold on to expectations or traditions we had as children. But your child doesn’t have the same expectations. So creating a nonfood gingerbread house and adding to a collection each year that you can display during the holidays for all to see can be a wonderful tradition your child can enjoy.

I hope this was helpful. Comment below with pictures or let me know how it goes!
